Lexus NX series awarded Best Mid-Size Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2023
Blog Jan 27th, 2023If you’re not currently driving a Lexus NX, you might want to reconsider. Each year the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) recognizes the top vehicles in the nation at its Canadian Car of the Year awards. The group, which consists of unbiased journalists, photographers and other members of the automotive industry, ranks vehicles across 12 different categories, awarding a first, second and third place in each.
This year, the NX series took home the top spot in the Best Mid-Size Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada category.
“We are proud of the Lexus NX series for so many reasons – from its class-leading innovations and its range of electrified powertrains, to the Canadians who build these popular models on our dedicated assembly line at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario – one of the top auto assembly plants in the world,” says Martin Gilbert, Director of Lexus Canada.
It’s a prestigious award that holds a lot of clout. The AJAC has a rigorous evaluation process that focuses on tests that are relevant to real world drivers, not just vanity metrics or favourable terrain. This includes evaluations like how a vehicle handles everyday-type driving on public roads versus on a track. Then, there’s a robust checklist where judges rank a variety of criteria from braking and acceleration to cargo storage to safety and handling.
The NX series received top ratings from this year’s panel of judges, and if you’re already familiar with the NX, it’s easy to see why. The entire NX family is built with impressive performance capabilities, luxurious finishes inside and out, a spacious cabin, and top-of-the-line technology and safety features.
There’s versatility in the NX series, too, which is why it’s such a favourite at Northwest Lexus. Guests have four powertrains to choose from, including the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid electric, the NX 350h self-charging hybrid electric, the NX 350, as well as the NX 250. Certain models also have different options, like the Executive Package or the F SPORT.

“The NX has been a winner with our guests since it was first introduced, and we are thrilled that AJAC’s members have honoured it with this important award.”
While this prestigious recognition sets the tone for 2023, it gets better: this category win means that the NX is now up for the overall Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year award. The winner of that will be announced by the AJAC in February.
