Three farmers’ markets within a 30 minute drive of Brampton that are worth the trip.

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Brampton this summer, you’ll want to add these local farmers’ markets to your list. Brampton’s central location to smaller surrounding communities is one of the perks of living here, not to mention excellent roadways to enjoy a leisurely drive to get there. Plug in a thriving farmers’ market into your navigation as your destination and you’ve got a perfect weekend morning.

Farmers’ markets serve as vital pillars of community well-being. They foster connections between producers and consumers while nurturing local economies and promoting sustainability. Plus, they’re full of tasty goodies, from fresh fruit to baked goods. Community is the cornerstone of Northwest Lexus, which is why supporting our local farmers’ markets is one of our favourite ways to spend a few hours on the weekend.

Here are three of the best farmers’ markets in the Brampton region that you’ll want to make the drive to.

Downey’s Farm
When: Monday through Sunday, opening May 17, 2024 until December
Where: 13682 Heart Lake Rd, Caledon, ON

Downey’s Farm has been a staple in Caledon for the past 30 years. The farm shop sells seasonal, Ontario-grown produce (rhubarb and asparagus kick off the season in May) as well as local preserves like pickles, maple syrup, jams and more. The on-site bakery has fresh breads and other baked goodies like cookies, sausage rolls and butter tarts, plus sandwiches. There are also family-friendly seasonal activities like a farmyard play area, Strawberry Festival in the summer, and Halloween and Christmas activities later in the year.

This year, Downey’s Farm opens for the season on May 17, 2024. Check out their handy calendar that shows what produce is in season and when, so you won’t miss your favourites, like raspberries in late July/early August or sweet corn in August through September.

Brampton Farmers’ Market
When: Saturdays, running June 15 to October 12, 2024 from 8am to 1pm
Where: Main Street South and in Ken Whillans Square, Brampton, ON

Sometimes the best things in life are right in front of you. For some readers, that might be the case with the Brampton Farmers’ Market. Our weekly outdoor local market, located centrally on Main Street South and in Ken Whillans Square, is a wonderful little option with a variety of vendors. Expect to find seasonal produce from local farmers, still-warm baked goods, fresh flowers, eggs, artisan crafts and more.

Downtown Georgetown Farmers’ Market
When: Saturdays, running June 1 to October, 2024 from 8am to 12:30pm

Where: Main Street South, between James Street and Church Street, plus in the parking lot at the corner of Church and Main

The Georgetown Farmers’ Market has been going strong since 1993 and is a local gem, famed for produce grown right here in our region. You’ll find delicious and juicy options for whatever is currently in season, as well as herbs, bouquets of flowers, and locally crafted goods, like candles and artwork.

If you arrive hungry, there are multiple vendors serving ready-to-enjoy snacks like frozen smoothie bowls, apple fritters, pizza and so much more. Enjoy your tasty treat while listening to some of the live music performers dotted along the street. Dogs are welcome to join at the Georgetown Farmers’ Market, but must be leashed.
